Pets and Condos
Living in a condominium can be the best of both worlds: you own your apartment or townhouse unit, but you leave the responsibilities of home and garden maintenance to others, as part of the management of the condominium corporation. For pet lovers, however, condo living can have its drawbacks, since condominium corporations are entitled under the Ontario Condominium Act, 1998,  to set restrictions on a unit owner's right to keep pets.  Unfortunately, if the declaration, by-laws or rules do not allow for pets or put restrictions on the number or size of pets, there is little that a pet-loving unit owner can do.  Unit owners need to be aware that the condominium corporation's by-laws and declaration are in place for a good reason, and will be enforced both by the condominium corporation and by the courts if necessary.
